How did Crazy Ex-Girlfriend score a Season 3 renewal despite being The CW’s lowest rated show? Co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna puts the comedy-drama’s survival down to its small but devoted fanbase, per TheWrap:
“It’s the same people. To a person, it’s the same. And at this point because of Twitter, I think we know most of them … We have a very devoted, loyal audience.
We knew that they loved the show, and we knew that the show was successful in certain ways, and it gets a kind of audience.”
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend also benefited from its lucrative Netflix deal, which in turn exposed the show to more viewers, while CW chief Mark Pedowitz believes its all about the brand:
“I know this is going to sound shocking, [but] It has nothing to do with numbers. The show was saved from cancellation because it “helped alter the perception of what The CW has become.”
Will Crazy Ex-Girlfriend continue to survive for Season 4? Stay tuned as we observe the future…
