All-star line up announced for the return of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip
It’s wonderful to have Celebrity Antiques Road Trip back on our screens with such a stellar cast of famous faces. As always there’s something for everyone, with plenty of winners, plenty of losers and lots of laughter along the way.
Jennifer Saunders, Charles Dance and Nigel Havers are among the stars of stage and screen taking to the road for the sixth series of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, which returns to BBC Two on Monday 14 November at 7pm.
With £400 in their pocket and paired with expert antiquers, two celebrities set off behind the wheel of a classic car to search Britain for undiscovered antiques, each hoping to make the biggest profit at auction. Along the way there’s a chance to hear the little-known stories behind some of the greatest events and people in British history.
Also joining the search this series for the best buy are Strictly Come Dancing’s Zoe Ball and Iain Waite, who trades a Paso Doble lesson for antique tips, Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, comedian Vic Reeves and pop stars Jimmy Osmond, Tony Christie, Rick Wakeman and Claire Grogan.
In the first episode, Jennifer Saunders is joined by actress and close friend Patricia Potter, alongside veteran antiquers Phillip Serrell and Mark Stacey. They shop in Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire before heading for an auction in Greenwich, where Patricia turns a pair of rare bronze turkeys, previously rejected by Jennifer, into the single biggest profit across the whole series.
At the other end of the scale, Su Pollard makes a loss of £173 on a larger than life ship’s figurehead of a cross-eyed Jesus and Ruth Madoc loses £132 on a 95 million year-old Hadrosaur egg. And relying on vintage vehicles to travel the country is not always smooth either. Car trouble sees Charles Dance abandoning Geraldine James in a bid to reach the shops first and Nigel Havers swapping a classic TVR Tuscan for the bus. Meanwhile, Jimmy Osmond and Tony Christie bring an auction house to a stand still with a crowd sing along of Long Haired Lover From Liverpool.
Adrian Padmore, BBC Commissioning Editor, says: “It’s wonderful to have Celebrity Antiques Road Trip back on our screens with such a stellar cast of famous faces. As always there’s something for everyone, with plenty of winners, plenty of losers and lots of laughter along the way.”
