Exec producers Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter are open to both avenues over cancellation, but would much prefer a ninth season of the ABC procedural, per TVGuide:
“If we had our choice, it would be the same cast, it would be the same show,” Hawley tells TVGuide.com “We’ve done some fun stuff this year so that it has a little different energy that could absolutely carry through to a Season 9. But both of us are very invested in this, and we understand that Castle has always been about Beckett and Castle. So the idea of that not happening is daunting, and we’re rooting against that.”
That said, the producers suggest that, with or without its stars, the show will go on if the network wants it. “What seems great is that [ABC chief] Paul [Lee] seems invested in the idea of the show continuing, which is always nice to hear, and we’re excited about it,” Hawley says. “We came in knowing there’s a lot of life left in the show, and we hoped we’d earn a Season 9. We are starting to have conversations about what a Season 9 would be.”
However, with cancellation still a distinct possibility, Hawley reiterates that the Season 8 finale will – as it stands – serve as both a season and potential series ender:
“LokSat is definitely getting resolved at the end of this year. Our hope was to take all the threads — the conspiracies, Sen. Bracken, Castle’s missing time– and really tie them off in a compelling, satisfying way, so that in Season 9 we can tell really compelling standalone stories and leave the conspiracy part of it behind. I think ultimately those stories are about played-out.”
Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the status of Castle Season 9…

I sure hope for a season 9 & maybe more? in the Same entertaining story line with a little bit of everything that it started out as. Hopefully the same talented stars will sign on & stay for the loyal viewers who have stuck with them in spite of all the naysayers, just because it didn’t go the way they wanted it. Life doesn’t always go the way we want it to, but hopefully, the writers will for the loyal fans. Still a lot more that can be told. It could come back the way it used to be & progressing with just the right amounts of mystery, humor, suspense & romance.

I resent the thought that naysayers are not loyal fans. Because many loyal fans feel that they have been totally betrayed by the show runners who essentially threw away what was my favorite show for no apparent reason, does not diminish my affection for the characters and the original story line. The fact that they talk about the show as if NO ONE has raised any objection to their hatchet job, leads me to believe they are corporate lackeys or possibly delusional. I personally am hoping for cancellation versus what they’re trying to pass off as CASTLE.

I would move Beckett on into the political scene with Castle writing a novel on the behind the scenes of National Politics and the scandals revealed along the way. Perhaps Beckett and Castle could investigate the murder of a New York Senator, which could open the way for her to start a campaign against someone whom she knows is corrupt.

Canceling Castle would be the biggest mistake ABC could make. There is nothing else on that comes even close to it. There is so little humor on at night as it is in a drama series. Don’t give up the ship! There are a lot of us who want to ride on the boat!
