Broadchurch will end after its upcoming third season, it has seemingly been revealed.
With series creator Chris Chibnall succeeding Steven Moffat as Doctor Who showrunner in 2017, Moffat suggests there will not be a fourth season of the ITV crime drama:
“Feels odd to be talking about leaving when I’m just starting work on the scripts for season 10, but the fact is my timey-wimey is running out. While Chris is doing his last run of Broadchurch, I’ll be finishing up on the best job in the universe and keeping the TARDIS warm for him.
ITV has yet to make an official statement regarding the future of Broadchurch (which resumes filming in May), and the reigns could potentially be passed to a new showrunner, thus making Season 4 possible.
For now, however, it appears that Broadchurch is on the road to the Reaper.
Stay tuned for any official updates on the status of Broadchurch…
RIP.

I love this show and don’t want to see it cancelled. It is TV at its best.

Chris Chibnall has said a hundred times that Broadchurch was planned as a TRILOGY from day one. Season three was always, always going to be the final season. That’s why he accepted the Doctor Who job in the first place, because he knew Broadchurch was finishing. There was never the slightest possibility of it going beyond three seasons. To say it’s been “cancelled” is false. It’s not cancelled, that’s when it was always intended to end.
