It’s been confirmed – Channel 4 has lost rights to air Black Mirror Season 3, which was acquired by Netflix last year.
The channel, which was the original home of the Charlie Brooker anthology series, has lost a bidding war with the streaming giant to air the third season.
In a pointed statement, Channel 4 chief creative officer Jay Hunt said:
“Black Mirror couldn’t be a more Channel 4 show. We grew it from a dangerous idea to a brand that resonated globally. Of course it’s disappointing that the first broadcast window in the UK is then sold to the highest bidder, ignoring the risk a publicly owned channel like 4 took backing it.”
A spokesman for producers Endemol Shine claims “every avenue” had been explored with Channel 4 and said the broadcaster had passed on chances to renew the show for Season 3 before Netflix swooped.
