NBC might not have had the Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris in terms of ratings, having decided against a Season 2, but the network doesn’t regret giving life to the variety show.
Speaking to Variety, Paul Telegdy, NBC’s president of late-night and alt programming, said:
“We are extremely proud of the work Neil and the producers did on ‘Best Time Ever. People rewarded us for taking the risk of trying something different. It was an incredibly complicated and sophisticated form of television to put on a live show on a weekly basis. We’re proud of Neil for giving it his all and we have steely resolve to work together on something new.”
For his part, host Neil Patrick Harris tweeted his appreciation:
So Best Time Ever happened. Super grueling yet exuberant fun. I’m proud of what we did – live! – and still believe in variety. Stay tuned.

Will you miss Best Time Ever, or does it belong in the cancellation graveyard?
Michael P. says
Not a surprise as NBC has a long history of cancelling shows that are halfway decent. (They almost canned “Seinfeld” prematurely.) In their never-ending search for ratings, they will probably fill the time slot with a couple of mindless cost-efficient comedies. Hats off to NPH for the concept and the nod to live TV. “Best-Time-Ever” was not a great show but it was never tired and dull like so many other programs. I will miss it as an alternative to the same old stuff.
