Apple Orders Multi-Academy Award Winner Alfonso Cuaron’s Thriller Series ‘Disclaimer’ Starring Academy Award-Winners Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline

Based on the novel of the same name by Renee Knight, “Disclaimer” will star Blanchett as a successful and respected television documentary journalist whose work has been built on revealing the concealed transgressions of long-respected institutions.

Apple orders multi-Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón’s thriller series “Disclaimer” starring Academy Award-winners Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline

Cuarón to write, direct and executive produce all episodes as part of his overall deal with Apple TV+, and Blanchett to executive produce on new series with award-winning cinematographers Emmanuel Lubezki and Bruno Delbonnel serving as directors of photography

Apple TV+ has ordered “Disclaimer,” a new original series from the multi-Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA Award-winning director, writer, producer, cinematographer and editor, Alfonso Cuarón (Golden Lion Award-winning “Roma,” “Gravity,” “Children of Men”) through his production company Esperanto Filmoj. The psychological thriller will star multi-award winning and internationally acclaimed actors Cate Blanchett (“Don’t Look Up,” “Nightmare Alley,” “Pinocchio”), who will also executive produce, and Kevin Kline (“The Starling,” “Beauty and the Beast,” Broadway’s “Present Laughter”), who is making his series debut. Cuarón will write, direct and executive produce the series.

Based on the novel of the same name by Renee Knight, “Disclaimer” will star Blanchett as ‘Catherine Ravenscroft,’ a successful and respected television documentary journalist whose work has been built on revealing the concealed transgressions of long-respected institutions. When an intriguing novel written by a widower (played by Kline) appears on her bedside table, she is horrified to realize she is a key character in a story that she had hoped was long buried in the past. A story that reveals her darkest secret. A secret she thought was hers alone.

The series will be the first project to debut from a multi-year deal with Cuarón, who is developing television series exclusively for Apple TV+, and it joins Apple’s award-winning series slate. It also marks first time Cuarón has written and directed all episodes of an original series. Cuarón currently serves as producer on Apple Original Film “Raymond and Ray,” which is now in production from Apple Studios.

“Disclaimer” is produced by Esperanto Filmoj and Anonymous Content. Academy Award-winner Emmanuel Lubezki (“Gravity,” “Birdman,” “The Revenant”) and Academy Award nominee Bruno Delbonnel (“The Tragedy of Macbeth,” “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Darkest Hour”) will serve as directors of photography on the project. Cuarón serves as executive producer alongside Esperanto Filmoj’s Gabriela Rodriguez and Anonymous Content’s David Levine, Dawn Olmstead and Steve Golin. Blanchett executive produces and Renee Knight serves as co-executive producer.

“Disclaimer” joins a growing roster of award-winning Apple Original series, including the Emmy Award, and SAG and Critics’ Choice Award-winning “Ted Lasso”; Emmy, Critics Choice and SAG award-winning series “The Morning Show”; NAACP Image Award-winning “Truth Be Told”; the recently renewed “Physical,” a dramedy from creator Annie Weisman, and starring and executive produced by Rose Byrne; as well as highly anticipated series including “The Shrink Next Door,” starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd; “WeCrashed,” starring and executive produced by Academy, Golden Globe and SAG Award winners Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto; “Five Days At Memorial” from Academy Award winner John Ridley and Emmy Award winner Carlton Cuse; and “Roar,” a new female-driven anthology series from creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, and executive producers Nicole Kidman and Bruna Papandrea.

Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app in over 100 countries and regions, on over 1 billion screens, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, select Samsung, LG, Sony and VIZIO smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and at tv.apple.com, for $4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. For a limited time, customers who purchase a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac or iPod touch can enjoy one year of Apple TV+ for free. This special offer is good for three months after the first activation of the eligible device.
