That sucks that this show has been canceled!!! All the lousy reality TV shows on, and they canceled what was the best show of the year!!!! Ridiculous decision!! My only hope is that a cable network takes the show over,
PAT says
PLEASE WHY DO YOU PUT ON A SHOW AND CANCEL AFTER ONLY A FEW TIMES ON. YOU ALWAYS DO THIS. PLEASE TELL ME WHY
Ralph says
I agree. You didn’t give it a chance. Bad choice to cancel. That’s why I don’t watch too many NBC shows. You will lose more viewers.
W. Riopel says
I agree. This was one of the best on TV at the moment. Not this ‘reality’ crap. The show was complex, but any normal person would have no trouble understanding and following the plot. This is a big mistake. I hope another network picks it up like Longmire.
Steve says
P.S. I heard ..I think Netflix was going to start start producing new episodes of Longmire, another great show. I just don’t understand the networks mentality of bringing on 50 new shows knowing the will cancel 90% of them if everybody in the nation doesn’t watch them. I think it is only driving people away for network TV but I guess they don’t really care about a decitaed audence as long as they can make a few bucks of ad revue.
Steve says
decitaed audence oops- dedicate audience
Steve says
Agree, I’m getting so sick of seeing great show after great show canceled and keep stupid reality shows on and crap like Scorpions on (half of the S*&^ they do is stupid and not possible). I think our only choice for the future is to say screw you networks and go to Netflix and similar providers that let us pick what we want and give us what we want.
Susan says
Totally agree – I always looked forward to this show – but the way they ended Season 1 looked like there would be no Season 2.
maryann says
Any chance of it being picked up by a cable channel. The ending left so much more to follow. When I think of some of the ridiculous stuff still on and they cancel something that was so entertaining.
Philip says
Blame Riyadh. They prob didn’t like the first 15 mins when the laptop showed a money transfer Riyadh to AQ for 30 million. So they went to Obama who went to NBC and said ‘The Saudis don’t like it so pull it’.
Sally says
I agree with Bruce! I am sick to death of stupid reality shows. Then NBC true to form cancels a great show like American Odyssey. What is the matter with the NBC idiots? Have they lost their taste and balls for good programs?
Susan says
NBC is Nothing But Cancellations – Can you say Star Trek???
Eric says
I enjoyed the show. However the cancellation does not surprise me. The show did not stick to the concept that drew me to the show. Odell trying to get home was the draw. However, the trick is to stretch that concept out to a season and further. For this reason they had several other plot lines that were related to the main one. However, some of the other plot lines were boring and took away from the main one. I can see where some followers of the show would stop watching as the show got kinda boring towards the end as we waited to see if Odell would get home. It was a great effort, but its not easy to make a hit show these days. TV watchers are getting harder to entertain. The mix of those easily entertained by reality tv and those that like the challenge of a TV scripted drama is a delicate balance that takes great writers and good timing from episode to episode.
I wrote this not to diss the show, as I loved the show. But hopefully someone might read it and use it to make another hit show. GREAT SHOW and will miss it!!!
Brett says
every time we get a really good show, and this one is different from all other shows, they get cancelled. It’s a bunch of bs. Stupid reality TV seems to be all that the executives care about
Susan says
Reality sucks!
Jane says
Really liked this show too. Like the other comments said, too many reality shows on it’s ridiculous to cancel a truly entertaining show like this one.
Linda says
I really liked this show and I’m just sick that it off. . . I want to know what happens. All these stupid reality shows and you cancel a great show. I hope a cable station picks it up
Michael Gough says
This truly sucks that they cancel a very good show. But as was stated in another post about the Saudis, this was also not portraying our government and a military leader in a very corrupt manor. I don’t think that was going over too well with powers to be!
Steve says
I guess when you get down to it, this was a reality show to and it was close to what is going on in our gov. these days and they didn’t want that getting out.
Margaret Bryan says
I’m 74, not much out there to enjoy. I’ve had it with these no brainer reality shows. Then NBC comes out with a winner ☆. Waiting every week to see what happens next? THEN NBC drops it after one season. WHAT HAPPENED? DID THE GOVERNMENT TELL YOU TO CANCEL THE SHOW??
I pay to watch these shows.
I hope another station with some guts buys it. PLEASE☆☆☆
Margaret Bryan says
“I Can Do That,” really.
You keep this stupid show and cancel “American Odyssey”?
Carol says
Another good show gone. Figures. More room for the stupid mind-numbing reality shows.
Very Disappointed says
Another show I’ve allowed myself to become invested in, only to have it yanked away. The writers should at least be given ample notice of a TV station’s intentions, so they can attempt to finish the season with an acceptable ending. I guess we’ll all have to make up our own ending. Thanks for nothing NBC!
Steve says
“so they can attempt to finish the season with an acceptable ending”.
AMEN, I am so sick of shows you get into and they just stop with no end.
Sharon Van Gorder says
The cancellation of AMERICAN ODESSY by NBC is another example of old network TV failing to support programs with meaningful plots , excellent scripts, and believable characters. NBC ditches the programs we want to watch in favor of the least expensive programs to produce such as reality TV which appeals to an immature audience or an audience that does not want entertainment that asks interesting questions. Certainly, no programs that may have some controversy are wanted.
I wonder why companies spend money to advertise on reality programs. How many people with the ability to buy a car watch these program?
Once again I think this shows why we need to move away from network programming to more daring cable networks and even cut the cord altogether choosing what programs to watch via an internet. provider. No more paying cable TV for programs we are not interested in watching. Choosing what types of networks we want to watch or other providers such as Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon streaming , aol TV.
Diana says
I completely agree with Sharon. So sad that NBC canceled a interesting program like American Odessy. Suspenseful plot and quality acting had me hooked. Hopefully, a cable TV network will pick it up.
Manuel Chuakay says
I used to look forward to my Sunday nights too watch American Odyssey and A.D. The Bible continues. Now they are both cancelled. Why not cancel the idiotic other reality low life shows?
Bonita Taylor says
VERY DISAPPOINTED!
michael says
i watched this show in uk.outstanding plot and acting.should not be dropped.maybe issues are just a bit to sensitive for various powers out there.mmm!
Pat says
I was riveted by this show, American Odyssey – I watched it on DEMAND. So timely, such a good story line and good acting. Can’t believe you cancelled such a spellbinding show. You made a big mistake. I hope another network picks it up.
