Agent Carter has all but admitted cancellation defeat after two seasons, following news that Hayley Atwell has been cast as the lead in ABC drama pilot Conviction.
As Deadline reports:
Agent Carter, now in its second cycle, is drawing pretty modest ratings and does not look likely for a Season 3 pickup. In case of a series order for Conviction and an improbable renewal of the Marvel drama, ABC sources indicate that there could be a scenario where she could do both shows, potentially both as limited runs.
While ABC sources are not screaming ‘cancellation’, it wouldn’t be in their interests to do so with episodes yet to air and ad slots still to fill. However, Atwell’s new role speaks volumes for the future of the series which was already set for a burnoff.
Barring a possible but unlikely turnaround, Agent Carter will not move forward into Season 3. At best, the series is now ‘cancelled in-waiting’.
Stay tuned to see whether or not the situation changes in the weeks ahead…
RIP.

Excellent, fun show with a strong, positive woman as lead. Networks need to continue supporting good shows instead of constantly putting in new shows. It’s a revolving door, and it makes people less invested in even bothering with network watching.

I like this show. It is disturbing when a show has a female lead and the networks are quick to dismiss it before allowing it grow and flourish.

This show is dynamic— It shows a part of history that has been overlooked far too long.
That’s right— History.;It tells the story of the women of the O.S.S. forerunner of the C.I.A. They fought behind enemy lines during WWII .America’s greatest spy during WWII was a woman. Please do not take my word for it . Check it out .Once the war was over—- They were ordered to ” MAKE COFFEE ” !!!!!!

It’s my favourite show of the moment. Of course they’re going to cancel it, like everything else I’ve ever liked. Grrrrr!

No surprise, at all! Who didn’t see this coming? The show started off so well with a Marvel-identifiable plot that quickly nose-dove. This season started off as a desperation, in my opinion. Peggy quickly falling for a stranger and much of the focus became about how will our Peggy will fall in love.
Season Two was squandered charity!
I think Hayley Atwell is an outstanding actress that I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of, as long as she picks something with decent writers in support.

I like this show and always watch it. Great female parts, authentic looking 40s clothing and interesting stories. Inferior shows (usually with male leads) continue on and on. They keep canceling good shows and then put junk on in their place…makes no sense, give people a chance.

It seems to me that the main reason for canceling this show is the fact that it is far more entertaining to watch then Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D… both because the Characters like Agent Carter and as we see Jarvis’s wife Anna as well as both Villainous Frost and the Communist Fem fatal are all strong female figures in a ABC world were they want woman to be pregnant and working moms first…but heaven forbid soldier kick butt types with any brains. The fact that in creating the character of Frost they stole the very inventions created by Hollywood star Heddy Lamar proves that really Stan Lee id he wrote that piece about Frost shows his own prejudice. Look up Heddy Lamar and you might learn a great deal about this woman who fled Germany and gave the world the basis of one of the most important pieces of modern tech.
Again not too surprised if they kill this as it is too strong female lead and female oriented…
but then I tend to avoid watching anything on ABC or NBC because they tend to leave crap and cancel the better or more interesting stuff usually like this…without a real ending.

Hedy Lamarr is from Austria, not from Germany. She was married to an Austrian arms manufacturer, whom she left because he didn’t allow her to make movies. She then (1937) went to France or England and later to USA. Her ex-husband, who was, amongst others, a friend of Mussolini, continued to bargain with the 3rd Reich despite his jewish decency.
During the war Hedy and a Composer invented the frequency hopping system for controlling torpedoes, which wasn’t used at the time, but later for wireless communications.
Of course the story of Frost reminds us of Hedy, Lamarr as an Hollywood star and inventor, it is meant to, and Wynn Everett is a great actor, stealing the show often from great Hayley Atwell. Although blonde, she even looks a bit like her.
I didn’t like the first season of the show very much, I was even astonished that it was renewed. Frankly, I saw it only worth watching because of the main actress.
Now, the second season did really surprise me. The dark, depressive tone was gone, and Agent Carter had not only to slap men, but also to flirt with some. As if she is beginning to heal from her loss. She has to use her brain, not only the fists. Now I read everywhere that the show is to be cancelled. That is really idiotic.
I would agree that the ending of season two was not a genious’ strike, but it was enternaining anyway. So why cancelling ? Hayley can do double shifts, she is strong.

Excellent show. Good acting. Bad time slot and poor advertising – much better then 80% of the shows on ABC.
